Hybrid Powertrain Headlines Upgrade For C-HR
Toyota has extended the availability of its hybrid powertrain with the upgraded C-HR being the latest model to benefit from the refined, fuel-efficient drivetrain.
The facelifted Toyota C-HR was unveiled in Europe today and will arrive in Australia in December with the new hybrid option to be offered in the biggest selling two-wheel drive (2WD) Koba variant, that makes up nearly half of all C-HR sales.
In addition to the new powertrain option, the upgraded C-HR features enhanced front and rear styling and the addition of Apple CarPlay®1 and Android Auto™2 compatibility for its new generation multimedia system.
Toyota Australia Vice President Sales and Marketing Sean Hanley said Toyota was committed to increasing the availability of its advanced hybrid drivetrain across a broader range of cars, to give as many customers as possible the option of a refined and fuel-efficient petrol-electric powertrain.
"We now offer hybrid power in some of our most popular models including Camry, Corolla hatch, Prius and RAV4, and its addition to C-HR will further broaden its appeal," Mr Hanley said.
"Our customers are demanding an alternative powertrain that delivers strong performance, refinement and low fuel consumption, and hybrid answers that need.
"And clearly it's something our customers appreciate with hybrid accounting for nearly 45 per cent of Camry sales, 40 per cent of Corolla hatch sales and nearly 40 per cent of new RAV4 sales over the past three months," Mr Hanley said.
The new 1.8-litre hybrid powertrain will be offered in the 2WD C-HR Koba alongside the existing 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine.
The entry-level 2WD C-HR and all AWD C-HR variants will continue to be powered by the 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine that drives through a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
The new 2WD C-HR Koba hybrid also uses a CVT that helps deliver a combined-cycle fuel consumption of just 4.3l/100km3.
Along with the new powertrain option, the upgraded C-HR features a range of exterior design enhancements including new LED headlights, taillights and alloy wheels.
Inside, all variants of the new C-HR feature a new-generation multimedia system that offers Apple CarPlay®1 and Android Auto™2 compatibility along with improved functionality and a larger 8-inch touchscreen display.
