Help Legacy keep the promise to families of veterans.

Each Anzac Day we rightfully remember the sacrifices of current and previous generations of Australian that have served their country. In 1923 Legacy made a promise to help families continue on with their lives after the loss or injury of a loved one in military service. As Anzac Day approaches Legacy needs your help to ensure the promise lives on for families of fallen and injured veterans.

Kelly’s Story

“The days after losing Rick are still such a blur, but from the earliest time after I learned the awful news, Legacy was there for me and the girls.”

In 2012, Kelly’s husband Rick was killed while on active duty in Afghanistan. Kelly and her two daughters, Kate and Sarah, aged 8 and 6 were heartbroken.

In the aftermath of Rick’s death, Legacy was there for Kelly and her daughters in a time of grief and uncertainty. A Legacy Support Worker was there to offer counselling and support in the early days and a Legatee, a specially trained volunteer, helped Kelly navigate through the stress of moving out of their Defence property.

In the years that followed, Legacy was there to support the family with counselling, legal and emotional support. In addition to educational grants for her daughters schooling, Kelly found great solace in the connections and bonds formed with other widows.
